Thatll be all for the Chestnuts Live Blog, folks! Im headin on the road down to RI for the evening. Enjoy the rest of the game!
Top 8th: Logan does his job, as he gets Ortiz to fly out to right-center. Joba Chamberlains coming in now.
End 7th: Bard strikes out Swisher on three more fastballs. This kid is the balls. Jon Lesters final line: 99 pitches (57 strikes), 6.1 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K. Boone Logan is on to start the 8th for the Yankees, as David Ortiz is due up.
Bottom 7th, 2 Out: Bard strikes out Jeter on three straight fastballs. Two out, bases still loaded.
Bottom 7th: Lester strikes out Granderson, and thatll be the day for Jon. Daniel Bard will come in to face Derek Jeter with the bases loaded and one out. Ill give you Lesters final line after the inning ends, as hes still responsible for all three men on base.
Bottom 7th: Daniel Bard is warming in the Red Sox bullpen as Lester approaches 90 pitches. A single by Jorge Posada, a double by Marcus Thames, and the Yankees have second and third with no one out. Lesters looking a bit winded. Kearns is hit by a pitch and now the bases are loaded for Granderson. Still nobody out.
Middle 7th: This half-inning saw three stolen bases (two by Jacoby Ellsbury, one by J.D. Drew), a spectacular catch in left field by Austin Kearns, a batter nailed in the foot with a pitch (Ellsbury), and a wasted opportunity at the plate. Victor Martinez struck out to end the inning with runners on second and third, and Kerry Wood escaped a huge jam. Posada, Thames and Kearns are due up for New York
Top 7th: Kerry Wood is in to replace Phil Hughes on the mound for New York.
End of the 6th: Another dominant inning from Jon Lester. He retired Teixeira, A-Rod and Cano in order on nine pitches. All three men grounded out to shortstop Marco Scutaro. Lesters at 84 pitches.
Middle 6th: Phil Hughes works a 1-2-3 sixth, and his day is now over. Hughes final line: 114 pitches (74 strikes, 40 balls), 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, BB, 3 K. He did not allow a home run. Jon Lester is heading to the hill for the bottom half of the inning.
Top 6th: Hughes is back out for his 6th inning of work. High pitch count coming.
Bottom 5th: After an opposite-field single by Derek Jeter, Lester comes back to strike out Nick Swisher on a high fastball to end the inning. The Yankees have just two hits over the first five innings. Lesters at 75 pitches for the afternoon. Beltre, Lowell, Kalish due up for the Sox in the 6th.
Bottom 5th: Lester just allowed his first hit of the game (single by Austin Kearns).
Middle 5th: Hughes jams David Ortiz on a high-riding fastball, fielding the play himself on a soft grounder off the mound. Jon Lester comes back to the hill, still with a two-run lead. Hes thrown 59 pitches so far, 30 for strikes. Hughes is likely done for the day with 97 pitches of his own.
Top 5th Inning: Phil Hughes is up over 90 pitches already and Victor Martinez just shot a double down the right-field line. Lesters certainly been the better of the two starting pitchers here today.
